What is image dithering?
Dithering is a technique that simulates colors or shades not available in a limited palette by mixing pixels of available colors. The human eye perceives the mix as intermediate tones, creating the characteristic speckled or patterned look of retro graphics.
What is error diffusion?
Error diffusion dithering quantizes each pixel to the nearest palette color, then distributes the difference (error) to neighboring unprocessed pixels. This produces smoother gradients than simple thresholding.
